Oberon Originals
ABOUT OUR READING SERIES
Each year, Oberon Theatre Ensemble conducts two reading series, one in April and another in November. We choose four plays for each series from a pool of works submitted to us throughout the years. One recent call for submissions brought in over 200 plays, some from as far as Russia. WOW!
The selected plays are directed, rehearsed and read by professional actors drawn from our ensemble and beyond. The readings are completely bare-boned in order to see how the material stands with no production value. Is the story compelling? Can the actors easily connect to their characters and the given circumstances? We encourage feedback from the audience as well as the cast.
Oberon selects one original work each year from our previous readings and we give it a full production. This is our contribution to keeping original works thriving and current -- in the city and internationally. We have read some amazing plays over the years. List of Past Readings
Encouraging playwrights to continue creating helps invigorate and diversify theatre as a whole. A mission all of us at Oberon are very proud of.
